Donna Lau -" Challenged Athletes Foundation"

On October 26, 2008, I will take part in the Tour de Cove – a four and a half hour spinathon to benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). The event is held annually to raise funds for CAF – an organization that raises money to help people with physical challenges pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and athletics.

At the Tour de Cove I will spinŽ alongside challenged athletes who have overcome unimaginable barriers. I have committed to raise $5,000 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation. What is not widely understood is that the prosthetic limbs, adaptive sports equipment and training that enable these athletes to participate in sports often are not covered by insurance and can be inaccessible and cost-prohibitive to many physically challenged individuals.

CAF is often the difference between these individuals making it to the starting line or being left on the sideline. The funds raised through the Tour de Cove will be used to benefit future challenged athletes by allowing CAF to provide them with specialized sports equipment such as handcycles, sport-specific wheelchairs, and sports prosthetics.

I hope you’ll accept my challenge: Help me make dreams come true by making a donation in my name to the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Thank you for your support of the Tour de Cove, CAF and my goal.
XOXO
Donna Lau

August is the perfect time to think back to the carefree days of childhood.  Curator A. S. Ashley, King of Theme Art Shows, has asked artists to think back and create ART.

This is truly a dream theme for artists, who dream a lot.  Mention it to an artist and you’ll see them venture off to Never-Never-Land.  Included in this theme is childhood obsessions, what were you obsessed with as a child, and has it defined who you are today?

PONY PICTURES
Ashley has asked artists to bring a duplicate or artistic interpretation of their “pony picture”.  Back in the day,  enterprising pony owners would walk through neighborhoods with cowboy gear and pony ready to capture a child’s amazement in a photo.  Pony pictures will be displayed in the Joan Weldon Gallery.  Oh, and if you were one of the unfortunate kids who didn’t get a pony photo for posterity, well, it’s never too late. Rumor has it there will be ponies at the opening reception, and cowboy gear.

Join us as we open the gallery to the dreams of childhood.
